Another great example of a starter 4/2 berth pre-owned tourer up to £12,000
Maker/model: Swift Charisma 535
Year: 2010
£10,495
Berths: 2/4
Length: 4.75m
Width: 2.29 m
MIRO: 1127 kgs
MTPLM: 1330 kgs
Typical tow car: Kia Sportage
Layout: Front end dinette, side kitchen, side dresser and end washroom with shower cubicle
Pros: Good well proven tourers, with well equipped kitchen, offside fixed bed, and good storage.
Cons: Short front lounge for four, kitchen has a limited worktop, shallow overhead front lockers.
Look out for: Cracking GRP rear panel, Thetford digital fridge not working.
Extra equipment? Good spec for the cost, may find an extra mains socket added or Gas BBQ point.
Jenkinson’s opinion: This model was very popular and during that period, the Swift group made the Ace range and the Sterling Europa range with this layout. Look out for dealer specials, such as the Safari over the standard Charisma which comes with an upgrade in spec, such as gas BBQ and exterior mains socket. However, the standard Charisma is a tourer that offers comfort and spec to please most.
At less than £11,000 this fixed bed tourer offers a front lounge which for two there is plenty of room, but with four adults, could be a squeeze. This area also makes into a double bed if needed. The side kitchen comes with a Thetford digital fridge along with a microwave, an oven and a duel fuel hob. The side fixed bed is a good size for the van but always check the mattress for support. The washroom is in the nearside corner while the wardrobe is opposite the kitchen area.
How to find a good one
The Charisma 535 is worth keeping an eye out for; it’s a decent tourer that offers good value. The Charisma is readily available, through both private and dealership sales. The private buyer of course needs to do the regular checks of ownership and also make sure the van is damp free. If it has a mover fitted ask the seller to demonstrate the mover to make sure its working.
Look at tyres for cracking and make sure a service has been carried out and that the spare wheel is present. If you buy from a dealership then most of your worries are alleviated but still do checks. Prices will vary but don’t forget a cheaper 535 from a long distance dealership has to go back there for repair etc. The Charisma has tough aluminium sides, again check for damage. Also check front windows for scratching of the double glazing.
